As a white or white-presenting coach, psychologist, or healing professional I know you long to be part of the solution when it comes to racial equity.

Would you like to...

  • Be comfortable discussing and questioning a friend, or family member, or a client’s white dominant culture narratives?
  • Clearly understand important ways that whiteness, white privilege, and white-dominant culture sustain racism in the United States AND in the helping professions?
  • Experience confidence holding the experiences of BIPOC clients knowing that you will not do unintentional harm?
  • Be connected to and engaged with a community of like-minded others that are actively working toward equity?

Most important, would you like to do, and experience, these things with compassion for yourself and the other people in the room (and on the planet) with you?

If so, you are invited to join me for Elevating Equity.

But first, let's get to the details...

What is this, exactly? Elevating Equity is an eight-week live experience for white and white-identifying coaches, psychologists, and healing professionals to understand and unravel whiteness and white dominant culture both personally and professionally

Why is this important? Too many coaches, healing professionals, and psychologists don't act on behalf of equity for fear of doing the wrong thing, yet have a deep longing to be part of the solution. This course will help you see, and unravel, white dominant culture narratives (which perpetuate racism) in yourself and help you choose how you want to engage in those dialogues professionally

When will classes be held? 75-minute live calls will be held via Zoom on Wednesdays - October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, and 24th beginning at 8 am pacific/ 9 am mountain/ 11 am eastern time

How much will it cost? $700.00 with 10% of profits going to The Loveland Foundation, which provides essential healing and mental health services to Black women and girls.

This is an intimate group - there are only 8 spots available to create honest and brave space for the conversations that change us from the inside out.

Say no more, I'm ready for Elevating Equity

Let's talk about you + race for a moment

As a white or white-identifying coach, healer, or psychologist, you may have been horrified by your growing awareness of racially driven violence and ongoing and persistent discrimination against BIPOC in North America. You are smart, so how did you miss it? As you learn more, you are uncomfortably aware of (perhaps even a bit defensive about) the benefits of white privilege, even though you don't feel like you've necessarily been privileged in your life.

Look, you know racism is a problem and you want to DO something, but you don’t know what to do. You keep hearing people say that as a white woman, you are part of the problem, but you don’t really understand how. Even when something is blatantly racist, you may be afraid to speak out because you don’t want to offend your family or friends who don’t agree with you and you certainly wouldn't know what to say if it came up with a client or patient.

You try to do your part by donating to different organizations, and you may even share the work of BIPOC people on your social media. You've done a fair amount of reading or consuming media that analyzes the issue and shares the experiences and history of BIPOC people.

But you want to do more - so sister, let's do more.

Hi, I'm Nona.

As a master coach, breath and meditation teacher, energy worker, and an applied psychologist, I have been coaching and teaching coaches, healing professionals, and psychologists for the last 13-years. Like many of you, it is only in the last eight years that I have become aware of the pervasiveness of racism in western countries. So I bring compassion and a welcoming, but fiercely honest, space for white and white presenting coaches and healing professionals who want to explore whiteness and systemic racism so they can show up in the world to take meaningful action.

I am actively engaged in my own anti-racist work. I have participated in a racial affinity group facilitated by Ruth King, taken courses with Resmaa Menakem, as well as Nicole Lee, and had the pleasure of taking an incredible course on the history of racism through Harvard. I also recently became a member of an equity and inclusion working group for my daughter's school district.

My undergrad degree in international business had a strong focus on systems thinking and I recently completed a master’s degree in applied psychology (summa cum laude) from Harvard Extension School - Elevating Equity is my Capstone project.

Finally, I have recently returned from living in Zambia for the last four years. Living as a racial minority in a previously colonized country was humbling and highlighted the ways that oppression becomes internalized. Living overseas while witnessing the violence against BIPOC in the U.S. was a catalyst for me to create this program.

I believe in us. I believe that we can shift the cultural narrative toward healing, wholeness, and equity. I hope you'll join me.

Introducing Elevating Equity

"You may never be ready, but that isn't a good reason not to start." -Cyndie Spiegel

What is equity, anyway?

This definition of equity from the Stanford Social Innovation Review speaks to me, “Equity is about each of us getting what we need to survive or succeed—access to opportunity, networks, resources, and supports—based on where we are and where we want to go. Nonet Sykes, director of race equity and inclusion at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, thinks of it as each of us reaching our full potential."

This definition resonates deeply with the heart of our professional mandate as coaches, healing professionals, and psychologists, does it not? Yet, the unexamined, invisible structures of whiteness and white dominant culture mean that all of us carry, and enact, mindsets and narratives that lend power to systems that harm BIPOC citizens.

Together, let's begin to unravel the assumptive mindsets and narratives that we as coaches, healing professionals, and psychologists "swim in".

Elevating Equity is an opportunity to see, think about, and do your work differently.

This eight-week program is for experienced white and white presenting coaches, psychologists, and healing professionals who have felt overwhelmed and wondered, "What can I do?". During Elevating Equity, you will be invited to explore, process, and reflect on your racial identity and the invisible assumptions that impact you both personally and professionally and you will question the dynamics that may be present in the coaching relationship.

Elevating Equity begins with your work.

We will explore the tender truth of our collective history, particularly our relationship to the invisible scaffolding of whiteness and white privilege. From our understanding of whiteness and white privilege, we will begin to unravel the sacred assumptions of neutrality, individualism, meritocracy, and personal excellence that pervade coaching, healing, and psychology to dismantle these myths in ourselves and assess how they show up in the professional space. We will utilize ancient wisdom practices to develop a hopeful positive vision that connects us to our desire to see true equity realized. Finally, we will integrate what has been learned and consider what it means for you to be an accomplice and to elevate equity both personally and professionally. You will be inspired to take the next step in your own journey of Elevating Equity.

Elevating Equity draws on the wisdom of BIPOC voices.

Though this is an affinity group for white and white presenting coaches, healing professionals, and psychologists we center the voices and experiences of BIPOC people. Each week you will have a curated list of readings and/or podcasts to provide context for the live class. Yes, I will be leading and facilitating discussion and inviting you to integrate and act, however, the real transformation will happen in the honest discussion as we explore the impact of whiteness and white dominant culture and choose how to move forward.

At the end of Elevating Equity, you will:

  • Understand how whiteness, white privilege, and white dominant culture sustain racism in western culture and in the helping professions.
  • Be confident discussing and questioning white-dominant culture narratives in personal and professional settings.
  • Compassionately hold the experiences of BIPOC clients knowing you will not do unintentional harm.
  • Go from fear and uncertainty to hope and action as an advocate for racial equity.

I am ready to say yes to Elevating Equity

Frequently Asked, Answered.

As a white woman, are you really the best person to facilitate work that addresses race?

Right? This is one of the biggest questions and concerns that I have grappled with - I’m a white woman offering a program to address race, in particular, whiteness and its role in sustaining racism. I've come to believe that all types of learning and facilitators are necessary and needed.

Within the research regarding racial education, and in conversations that I’ve had with people of color about this concern, there are very good reasons for racial education to, at least in part, happen in racial affinity groups. Time and time again, I have heard that the constant education of white people regarding race is exhausting. In this way, Elevating Equity seeks to relieve the burden and minimize harm.

In addition, a white caucus provides a valuable, self-responsible learning space where participants can learn and engage without fear of being seeing as racist or being performative. This is incredibly healing and empowering.

How much time will be required for engagement between sessions?

I have curated amazing, thought-provoking resources for this course and they are integral to the live sessions. It's important that you have time in your schedule to do the reading/listening before live sessions. On average, you will have 1 - 2 hours of required reading and/or inquiry to consider between sessions. There will also be an optional forum (on Facebook) to connect with your cohort and share insights, ideas, and responses to the work we are doing together. Having the time to engage with the materials between sessions will make the learning richer and more meaningful for you, and for others in the group.

What if I decide the course is not for me - do you offer refunds?

There are no refunds once Elevating Equity has started. When you sign up for a course with me, you are making an investment in the future that we are co-creating together. I begin weaving you into the circle that is gathering through my morning meditation and energy medicine. In other words, the transformation begins once you say yes.

If you are unsure that this course is for you, reach out to me with your questions or schedule a call. I am invested in making sure that you are a full yes for Elevating Equity.

Are you ready to take the leap?
