Rise Up, Sister.

Too many of you have been held down

In large and small ways, in direct and indirect ways, too many women are dismissed, diminished and held back from their own greatness when, in an ideal world, we would all be lifted and supported by those around us, those who came before us.

Recently, I was talking to my daughter about ancestors. I was explaining to her how we stand on the shoulders of those who go before us in the best of circumstances. We are held up, we are lifted high. Our ancestors...

The Art of Dwelling in Worth

"I don't want to do my workout."

I woke up this morning and that was my first thought. Clara has been sick. I was sick. It was Clara's birthday. We are traveling next week. I'm in the middle of 2018 Medicine Visions. I'm preparing space for the women who are gathering for The School of Sacred Practice including answering questions, having chats and sharing my thoughts with women on why it matters to them.

My workout seemed like a royal pain in the ass that I definitely didn't have...

The Feminine Path of Mastery

I attended a yin yoga teacher training

I did the training to celebrate completing my breathwork healer certification and because Kari Kwinn is my favorite yogini as well as a dear friend, and because I adore yin yoga - it's pretty much the only style I practice with regularity.

As Kari Kwinn says, "Yin is an intention." which to me means it's not necessarily about choosing outcomes or what it looks like, but it's about how we show up for the practice - heart and mind open, willing to listen...

Say Yes to Risk

If you are in business, you are in the business of risk.

  • There is the risk of not making enough money to pay the rent.
  • The risk of leaving the corporate paycheck behind.
  • There is the risk of concept failure.
  • There is the risk that life will intervene and you will have to scale back your business.

And then there are all the risks that go along with grabbing the ring and succeeding.

  • There is the risk that you will be criticized, called out, judged and disliked by some.
  • ...

Evolution, Yogini-Style

“The spiritual journey does not consist in arriving at a new destination where a person gains what he did not have, or becomes what he is not. It consists in the dissipation of one’s own ignorance concerning one’s self and life, and the gradual growth of that understanding which begins the spiritual awakening. The finding of God is a coming to one’s self.”

-Aldous Huxley

It takes a lot more effort to stay the same than it does to change, once you get started.

Making Space

This week, I learned something amazing.

I learned that we don't actually suck air into our lungs (like it might seem we do).  Can you believe it? Instead, our diaphragm, by moving downward, creates the space for air to rush into our lungs, fulfilling one of our most basic human needs.

It's air pressure - but it sounds like magic to me.

We make the space and the universe fills it for us - just like that.

What a beautiful metaphor for a business.

When I first began my business, I...

Are you Devoted?

For many years, my yoga practice felt like running through the mud.

After that first class, where I had the felt sense of being in my body, it became, to put it mildly, a slog.  Every time I practiced, I would find myself angry for no reason, or crying, or experiencing a barrage of dark thoughts that would plunge me into depressive states for days, if not weeks.  It would have been far easier to quit and write yoga out of my life.

I knew what was happening was necessary.

I didn't...

Hot-Line to Clarity

"I feel so drawn to yoga. I can't explain it, really...."

These words spill out, like a secret told for the first time, from many of my clients and friends.  They may have a regular practice, or they've experienced yoga in a class once or twice, or maybe they've never done it before.  But the longing and desire is there, drawing their eye and nudging their heart to.... something. But what?

The rich experience of being in the body is calling.

I didn't have adequate words to describe...

Taking shavasana at the end of your project

Being in creation-mode is super-yummy, isn't it?

There is passion, energy, focus, and productivity. It is, for the business owners I know, a happy place to be in, because you are getting your work out into the world.

Over the last month, I've been happily in creation-mode, working on the first month of the Business Yoginis Circle. It was a tremendous amount of work -- work that was enjoyable, even when things got a bit frustrating (like, making the same video, a million different...
